Part 3: Exercise - Abstract Illustration

Final picture - 'Elements': music by George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Does it work as a CD cover? Maybe. I tried turning this piece around to get the best angle and decided on this one. I felt that it resembled a  type of creature with a mouth emptying out an expressive blurb of blue. I chose these colours because it's what I felt the music conveyed at the time. Composition was really important and the exercise led me to review this over and over with the use of the crop tool. I had to make decisions on what to include and it wasn't easy.

First drawing

My original A4 drawing which I find extremely busy but honest. I named it elements because it seemed to represent fire, earth, water and air in the colouring and textures I chose to use. It's also a bit frustrated, which is what I picked up from the piece of music. I used oil pastels, koki pens and pencils.
